Mr. Mitchell is a business attorney in Blacksburg, Virginia focusing his practice on corporate transactions and working with emerging and established businesses to provide strategic, growth-oriented legal advice.
He has also been an active merger and acquisition attorney representing both buyers and sellers of businesses.
In 2012 Mitchell formed his own law firm so that he could also devote a portion of his practice to working with regional and local organizations on major projects, including helping his hometown, Tazewell, achieve National Main Street Program status.
He attended Virginia Tech, where he received a bachelor’s degree in accounting, and the University of Richmond Law School, where he graduated in the Top 10 of his class and was Editor-in-Chief of The University of Richmond Law Review.
Mr. Mitchell served on the staff of Governor Gerald L. Baliles focusing on economic development issues and has served as a advisor to many elected officials, including significant involvement in Senator Mark Warner’s first campaign in 1994.
Governor Warner and Governor Kaine both appointed him to the Virginia State Board for Community Colleges and his colleagues elected Chairman of the State Community College System in 2012.
He is a past President of the Virginia Public Safety Foundation and served as Chairman of the Fundraising Committee for the Public Safety Memorial that located just outside Capitol Square in Richmond, Virginia.
He recently served on the Board of Directors of the Virginia Public Access Project and currently serves on the Board of Directors of Historic Smithfield, where he chairs the Development Committee.
Mr. Mitchell serves on the Board of Trustees of the Appalachian School of law, is a member of the Standing Committee on Legal Ethics of the Virginia State Bar, and a member of the Business Law Section Leadership Council of the Virginia Bar Association.
