Emma is a graduate of Appalachian School of Law in the class of 2004. Prior to coming to law school, Emma worked as a case worker for the Cabinet for Human Services in Kentucky and as a Long Term Care Ombudsman.

After graduation, Emma worked for the Department for Public Advocacy as a public defender for 18 years. She then worked for AppalReD for two years. During this time, she taught as an adjunct at the Appalachian School of Law prior to joining full-time in January of 2026.

Emma has four children and three grandchildren. She loves travel, and this has inspired her artwork that has been exhibited in multiple gallery spaces.
