Michael G. (Mickey) McGlothlin has been President of Appalachian College Pharmacy since 2009, prior to that he was Interim President of the College from 2008 to 2009 and from 2005 until 2006. He served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees from 2006 to 2008. Since the inception of the College, President McGlothlin has chaired the College’s Building Committee which has overseen the renovations of Garden Hall, the construction of McGlothlin Hall, the renovations of the Hagy Building, which is the location of the Dragons’ Den (the College’s on campus restaurant), and the construction of the College’s parking lots, yards and walk bridge. He also serves as the Chair of the College’s Internal Executive Committee.

President McGlothlin has also served as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Appalachian School of Law since 2002. He served as Assistant Treasurer of the Appalachian School of Law from 2002 to 2005 and from 2019 to the present and as Treasurer of that School from 2005 to 2019. He served for approximately 25 years as a member of the College Board of the University of Virginia’s College at Wise (formerly Clinch Valley College Advisory Board) where he chaired the Student Affairs Committee.

He has served as Commonwealth’s Attorney for Buchanan County, Virginia,-and in that f;)Osi-tien sefVed as- the e-ounty’s chief criminal prosecutor. He also has served as a special prosecutor in adjoining jurisdictions. He served as the County Attorney for Buchanan County from 1984 to 1989 and again from 1992 to 2011. In that position he was in charge of handling the County’s civil legal matters. President McGlothlin was a partner in the Law Firm of McGlothlin, McGlothlin & McGlothlin from 1977 to 1979 and the Law Firm of McGlothlin & Wife from 1984 until 2002 and the owner of Michael G. McGlothlin, Attorney at Law from 2002 through the present. (Note: This law firm has been inactive since 2011 ).

President McGlothlin has handled a large variety of legal matters during his legal career. He is a past president of the Buchanan County Bar Association. He is an active member of the Virginia State Bar and was previously a member of the American Bar Association for more than 30 years.

President McGlothlin currently serves as a member of the board of directors of several for profit and not-for-profit corporations which include the McGlothlin Foundation, McGlothlin Cemetery Company, MGM Methane Corporation, New Peoples Bank, The Inn on Garden Creek LTD, and Watkins Branch Development.

President McGlothlin has been involved in numerous community service activities and has served as a volunteer for the Boy Scouts of America and as a past district chairman for the Breaks District of the Boy Scouts of America; as a baseball coach at both the high school and little league levels; as a little league basketball coach; and as a member and past president of the Grundy Kiwanis Club. President McGlothlin has served as a member of the Virginia State Board of Forestry and as a member of the Great Southwest Group Home Commission.

President McGlothlin received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia, in 197 4 and a Juris Doctorate Degree from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia in 1977. He graduated from Garden High School which was located in what is now the Appalachian College of Pharmacy’s Garden Hall. He attended Elementary School at Garden Elementary School whict:, was-located ir-i what is now- the-C-eHe§e’s parking lot.

President McGlothlin was selected in 2019 as a member of the Buchanan County Hall of Fame by the Buchanan County Chamber of Commerce.
