Some law schools give lip service to the notion of community service. At ASL, building exceptional lawyers, who are also exceptional citizens, is one of our hallmarks.

Community Service Requirement

ASL is so passionate about community service that our students are required to complete 25 hours of service each semester.
ASL seeks to attract students who see beyond themselves and become leaders in their community, now and in the future.

Examples of Community Service Opportunities

ASL students may propose their own project or choose from a wide range of more than 60 projects, including such law-related ones as:

• Volunteering for the local CASA program as Court-Appointed Special Advocates for abused and neglected children
• Engaging in property research and mapping through a municipal Trail development project
• Providing assistance to Commonwealth attorneys, public defenders, public advocacy offices and Legal Aid
• Serving with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program to provide free tax return assistance to low income individuals
• Providing information about Advance Medical Directives at a local Remote Area Medical Clinic
