Mary Foil Russell

After clerking for the Tennessee Court of Appeals in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Mary joined the staff of the Georgia Attorney General's Office in Atlanta. She served in that office as Assistant Division Director for the Health and Human Services Litigation Division from 1990 – 1994. She was appointed Special Assistant Attorney General in cases for the Georgia Department of Human Resources and Department of Medical Assistance from 1994 to 1997. Mary served as a panel trustee for Chapter 7 bankruptcy cases in the Eastern District of Tennessee from 1997 until 2017. She practiced with Sands Anderson, P.C. from 2017 until 2022, primarily in the areas of state and local government, juvenile law, and defense of local and constitutional officers. Mary joined the ASL faculty in August 2022 and is a supervising attorney in the Medical-Legal Partnership with Ballad Health, Virginia Tech and ASL.
