The Appalachian School of Law Class of 2024 commencement ceremony will be held on Saturday, May 11th, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. in the Riverview Elementary/Middle School gymnasium. A class of 39 students will end their three-year journey toward their Juris Doctorate in a celebration surrounded by their professors, deans, peers, family, and friends. We are pleased to announce the commencement address will be given by Mr. Kevin Carson, Managing Director, Federal Government Affairs and Associate General Counsel for the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (SIFMA).
Kevin Carson is a former Southwest Virginia native, having grown up in Pennington Gap, Virginia. Mr. Carson graduated from the University of Virginia with a B.A. in International Relations in 2006. He went on to receive his Juris Doctorate from Rutgers Law School in 2010.
Following his graduation from Rutgers Law School, Mr. Carson served as a law clerk for former Supreme Court Justice Cynthia D. Kinser. Mr. Carson then began an impressive legal career. He worked for Representative Joyce Beatty (OH-3), as a Legislative Assistant and Counsel. He also worked for Senator Joe Manchin III (WV) as his Chief Counsel. Mr. Carson then left Capitol Hill for a position as Chief Counsel to the Office of Legislative and Intergovernmental Affairs in the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. In February of this year, Mr. Carson began serving as the Managing Director of Federal Government Affairs and Associate General Counsel for SIFMA, a not-for-profit trade association that represents securities brokerage firms, investment banking institutions, and other investment firms throughout the world.
The commencement ceremony is open to the public. Congratulations to the Class of 2024!
