Appalachian School of Law provides a practical education that goes beyond theory to the actual practice of the law. The curriculum is rigorous and aimed at giving students the skills and knowledge they will need for their future career.
Students must complete 92 semester hours of courses. The community service program, which requires 25 hours of service each semester, enhances that coursework.
The Honors Program at Appalachian School of Law builds upon our reputation for academic excellence by promoting intellectual discourse and academic scholarship among students, providing opportunities for engagement with faculty and honored guests, and recognizing our top students.
In 2022, the Appalachian School of Law started a new clinic program that allows its law students to work with the Office of the Attorney General of Virginia on criminal appeals. The new Advanced Appellate Advocacy Program reflects our school’s commitment to providing students with practical experiential learning, future career opportunities, and an opportunity to serve the Commonwealth.
Appalachian School of Law offers several certificate programs as a key feature of our academic program. Students can complete a certificate program to enhance their J.D. degree and concentrate on a particular area of interest. Our certificate programs support diverse career paths and are offered in growing fields that provide our students promising futures.
